Albert Edelfelt and his paintings

Albert EdelfeltPainter Albert Edelfelt (1854-1905), the internationally most notable Finnish artist, was born in Porvoo at the Kiiala Manor on June 21, 1854. His paintings featured historical themes and portraiture, and he even painted the Russian Imperial family at one point. Although he moved to Paris, the artist returned to his hometown every summer to spend time with his friends and family.

The Albert Edelfelt Studio Museum in Haikkoo tells intriguing stories of the artist's life. You can admire the Porvoo scenery illustrated in the works of art by following Edelfelt's footprints to the different locations depicted in the paintings. A brochure in Finnish/Swedish and English/Russian is available at the Porvoo City Tourist Office.
