The coat of arms of Porvoo
The motif of the coat of arms of Porvoo is the letter C, from the Latin word castrum or castellum, castle. The coats of arms of all medieval Finnish towns had a letter motif. The Porvoo coat of arms is the only one that has preserved the form of a pointed Gothic shield. Its oldest known version dates from the year 1423.
