Coloured chalks from a villa
The coloured chalks of Porvoo have delighted many generations in Finland's schools. The coloured chalks made by the Porvoo Technical Factory were used from the 1930's. Aram Aunela founded the factory in 1907, in a place of natural beauty, in the former villa of town medical officer Georg Vallgren. This villa, built in 1850, still stands. The Porvoo coloured chalks are remembered well by the package drawn by Paul Hoge, with a view of Old Porvoo seen from Linnamäki. Nowadays the chalks are manufactured by a company of Artjärvi.
