Public wells
Formerly there were numerous public wells in Porvoo. One can still be contemplated at the City Park, situated uphill from the market square, and another, the town's oldest public well dating from 1848, at the riverside. The construction of vital wells and water pumps became necessary in the late 19th century, when the town's settlement spread south, to the present Empire district.
