Ville Vallgren - lover of art and good food
Sculptor Ville Vallgren (1855-1940), known for his love of art and good food, was born i Porvoo but made his way to Helsinki and finally Paris. There he spent 36 years studying and working.
Above all, Ville Vallgren was an illustrator of feminine beauty, and his miniature sculptures and symbolist ornaments brought him international fame at the end of the 19th century. Ville Vallgren's most famous work is the Havis Amanda fountain erected at the Helsinki Market Square in 1908. He is also known as the author of many spirited memoirs.
